May 6, 2012

BOISE, IdahoRon Paul backers are attempting to change the result of the presidential candidate’s third-place finish in the Idaho caucus by winning enough precinct committee races in the May 15 primary so they can overturn the win by Mitt Romney and award all 32 delegates to Paul.

The Idaho Statesman reports (http://bit.ly/JfKRmS) that Paul supporters hope to get a two-thirds supermajority of the delegates to the Idaho State Convention so they can vote to suspend the rules and change the results.

The March 6 caucus attracted nearly 45,000 GOP voters with 62 percent of them voting for Romney.

Precinct committeewoman Eva Gay Yost of Meridian says it’s an attempt to hijack the Republican Party.

Rick Santorum was second and Paul third as both finished with about 18 percent.
