Ron Paul draws hundreds at CSU rally – Northern Colorado 5
The Texas representative has not won a primary in this year’s Republican election run, but has managed to hit a home run with young voters.
“I love coming to the college campuses. For some reason we get very good receptions on college campuses,” Paul said.
Paul spoke to a sold out ballroom at the Lory Student Center this morning the first of the candidates to hit the Centennial state talking to folks about the Liberty movement and getting back to fundamentals of the Constitution.
“All we have to do is return to our Constitutional government, and believe me we can get out of this mess in a very short period of time,” said Paul.
Representative Paul who has been criticized about his foreign policy ideas sent a clear message that resonated with supporters in the crowd.
“One of the main reasons that you are interested in our campaign is because we do have a new foreign policy one designed to protect this country but not to be the policeman of the world,” he said.
And said repealing the Patriot Act is a must.
“As soon as the post 9/11 environment occurred, they brought it back out and they passed that terrible bill called the Patriot Act, should never have been passed. So I think that if we truly want our liberties back we should start by repealing the Patriot Act as soon as possible,”
According to most political analysts it’s not likely that Paul will win the nomination, but that doesn’t seem to sway Ron Paul supporters.
“Ron Paul is a strict constitutionalist and he believes in restoring us to a representational republic government instead of this giant federal monster that we have now,” said Catherine Schimming a Ron Paul supporter from Aurora.
And that he is the candidate to go head to head with President Obama.
“If everybody who said Ron Paul was un-electable, or I’d vote for him, would just vote for him, he’d be perfectly electable. It would be a landslide,” Schimming said.
Colorado does not have a primary, but will hold a caucus on February 7th. Rick Santorum will also be in Greeley on Saturday as part of the Weld County Republicans Annual Lincoln Day Dinner that will be held at UNC. Two other unnamed presidential candidates may also attend, but there has been no confirmation of that yet.
